What is B.Pharm Lateral Entry?

B.Pharm Lateral Entry is a specialized 3-year undergraduate program designed for D.Pharm graduates who wish to upgrade their qualification to a full-fledged Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy. Candidates are directly admitted into the second year (3rd semester) of the B.Pharm curriculum, thereby saving one academic year. The program follows PCI norms and covers all core subjects of B.Pharm years II, III, and IV, including advanced pharmaceutics, pharmacology, clinical pharmacy, research project, and industrial training.

PCI regulation 2020 allows D.Pharm graduates to obtain B.Pharm degree through lateral entry with bridge course requirements (if any).

Detailed Eligibility Criteria

  • Must have passed D.Pharm (Diploma in Pharmacy) from an institution approved by the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI).
  • Minimum 45% marks in aggregate (40% for SC/ST/OBC categories) in D.Pharm program.
  • The D.Pharm diploma must be of minimum 2 years duration (full-time).
  • Candidates should have registered as a pharmacist with State Pharmacy Council (preferable but not mandatory at admission).
  • There is no upper age limit as per PCI norms.

Is lateral entry B.Pharm valid for M.Pharm admission?

Yes, B.Pharm lateral degree is equivalent to regular B.Pharm. Graduates are eligible for M.Pharm, GPAT, and other postgraduate programs as per PCI norms.

Can I register as a pharmacist after lateral B.Pharm?
